Books
Who Sang The First Song and Don't Forget To Remember are two gorgeous Christian board books by Ellie Holcomb. Kayla Harren's illustrations are incredibly beautiful works of art on each page! These books are awe inspiring. As a bonus they are very well made and have not been destroyed by our teething baby yet! We found them on Amazon.
This Catholic book by Adam and Angela Smyth features so many of our favorite Saints it was a must buy for our daughter. The artwork is very charming and there is nice little rhyme about each Saint. Available on Amazon or Sophia Institute.
Joe Klinker and Manu Corsi bring us a super simple introduction to the Saints board book, featuring very cute simplistic artwork. This book is recommended because our daughter has loved this book ever since she got it at 6 months old. Be careful it doesn't handle teething well, but otherwise a nice book. We found it on Amazon.
Sally Lloyd-Jones' book based on Psalm 139 is a lovely fun way to explain that God is always with us. Jago's illustrations are beautiful works of art. There are also little cats or dogs to discover on each page. We found it on Amazon.
Our favorite books with Christian/Catholic themes for older readers are A Wrinkle in Time, The King's Prey, and The Green Ember series.
A Wrinkle in Time has subtle Christian themes about love and self sacrifice and is wonderful adventure for readers 10+.
The King's Prey is quite a thrilling tale featuring the life of a Saint Dymphna, the patron Saint of mental illness. We love how well they characters are brought to life and how authentic they are with their difficulties, misunderstandings and resilience. A lot can be learned about relationships, forgiveness and the struggles/temptations of the soul. Some of the characters suffer from mental illness so this book is suitable for older teens and up.
The Green Ember series has fantastic Catholic themes such as justice, the value of life, and honoring each person's dignity as they try to become the person God created them to be, all skillfully woven into an epic series of thrilling action packed tales of rabbits and wolves. Although there is some debate about a suitable age range, we think these books are better suited to teens at least 13+.
